This is a really good recording of Geoff Payne and the Melbourne Symphony playing the Lovelock trumpet concerto. Make some comments on the nature of the melody and how Geoff treats it in his interpretation.
Student:
The melody is bright, happy and cheerful! It has fanfare like intervals and rhythms. It has a number of different contours and shapes to it.
Geoff generally does small crescendos up to the highest point in the melody and diminuendos as the melody goes lower. At the end of some long notes there is very effective use of vibrato which seems to get faster toward the end of the note, there also seems to be a crescendo at this point in the note.
